Learning Passports
A learning passport (sometimes called an “About Me” profile) is a simple but powerful tool for children with learning differences.
It’s usually a short, student-friendly document or card that outlines:
- strengths and interests
- areas of difficulty
- helpful strategies and adjustments
- Learning passports are especially helpful for children who are not yet confident speaking up about their needs.
Why they matter
A learning passport helps new or relief teachers quickly understand how to support a student.
For example, a child may feel anxious or distressed if asked to read aloud unexpectedly. If a teacher is aware of this in advance, they can adjust their approach and avoid unnecessary stress.
Making it work
Learning passports can be created by parents, students or schools. Many families:
- use templates or examples as a starting point
- customise them to suit their child
- keep them short, clear and easy to share
- They can be handed discreetly to teachers at the start of a lesson or school day, helping create a more supportive and inclusive classroom experience.
